I am very big into family, and I have a big family as well. 5 brothers and sisters (I'm the 5th of 6). 14 nieces and nephews (R Russell Patrick II joined us 10/13/13). 5 great-nephews & 6 great-nieces (Brooklyn Grace joined us 10/2/13). And no, with that many family members, I do not keep up with birthdays very well. Not well at ALL! Even with a master list on my fridge.
I'm also married. My husband and I got married here in San Antonio at the historic Sheraton Gunter Hotel downtown. And we are the proud parents of a 12 year old Alaskan Husky named Moo and three 1 year old kittens: Wicket, Willow, and Winter.
Like all Texas moms, I made my kid pose in the bluebonnets.

The First ... Day of Kindergarten
The kids who do the best are the ones who have come early to familiarize themselves with the school and their classroom. Also you can get your child excited by pointing out school buses, reading books that are about going to kindergarten, maybe even going school shopping with them.
Don’t…make a fuss because that will stress out your child.
The First ... Crush
This is a perfect time to start talking about what qualities he or she likes in other people. You can even share your experience to help them know that they aren’t alone in their feelings.
Don’t…make a joke about it!
The First ... Big Loss in Sports
Focus on their performance and not the score. Remind your kid that sports is only about winning. It’s about teamwork and socializing and also about how your handle yourself in winning and losing.
Don’t…criticize the ump or throw a fit.
The First ... Bad Grade
Sympathize. Then ask questions that help get to the core of what happened. Try to stay as nonjudgemental as possible, and come up with ways together to correct the problem for the future.
Don’t…Lose perspective and your temper. It’s just one grade.
