I am very big into family, and I have a big family as well. 5 brothers and sisters (I'm the 5th of 6). 14 nieces and nephews (R Russell Patrick II joined us 10/13/13). 5 great-nephews & 6 great-nieces (Brooklyn Grace joined us 10/2/13). And no, with that many family members, I do not keep up with birthdays very well. Not well at ALL! Even with a master list on my fridge.
I'm also married. My husband and I got married here in San Antonio at the historic Sheraton Gunter Hotel downtown. And we are the proud parents of a 12 year old Alaskan Husky named Moo and three 1 year old kittens: Wicket, Willow, and Winter.
Like all Texas moms, I made my kid pose in the bluebonnets.
What did I get myself into?
Not to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty good at arts & crafts stuff. Fiesta Hats? Not so much. I don't sew. I know very little about yarn. So when I bought eyelash yarn to create "grass," I had no idea how thin it really was...and how long it would end up taking me.
That...THAT...took 2 1/2 hours! (Note to self: never use eyelash yarn again!) It didn't help having cats thinking it was play time with the yarn either. I almost threw in the towel at that point!
Another thing I didn't take into account was how heavy everything gets. Actually I thought I was doing a great job getting "light" things, when, in reality, they all add up and get heavy!
And the last thing that I certainly wasn't thinking of was placement and balancing on my head. Sure, I knew where I wanted stuff, but once all that stuff was on the hat, the hat had other ideas! I wanted the watering can on the side. The watering can had other ideas. The hat only stays on if you have it in the back.
They still aren't done. The one on the right has loads to do still. And check it out: it has lights on it! The right one is kind of done. I need the finishing touches though.
They're finished now! And you can see them, as well as vote on which one I should wear to the Fiesta Luncheon! Click HERE. It also includes a chance to win tickets to the Fiesta Luncheon as well! Good luck!
